You love to fly

Now it’s time to use your love for a higher purpose. Share your talent while giving life to someone else’s story with Wings of Mercy. Join a team of top Midwest aviators to fly amazing patients to the distant medical centers they need for treatment. Wings of Mercy operates with an all-volunteer team of pilots who lend their time, talent and often their planes to the cause. For safety, every flight requires two experienced, IFR-certified pilots and an approved aircraft for the trip. Since we often fly over the Great Lakes, many flights require twin engine planes and our single engines are larger models to accommodate two pilots and two passengers.

The cost of flying

While many pilots will volunteer their planes for the cause, you don’t need to own a plane to fly for us. We work through a mixed fleet of single-engines, multi-engines and even a few business jets that are owned by pilots, donors or corporations. Fuel reimbursement is a direct link between our donors and our mission. While we recognize that fuel only accounts for a third of the actual cost of a flight, it’s been a critical factor that allows many of our pilots to fly longer and more often.
