Compassion (CMF) Call Sign No Longer In Use

Jan 14, 2020Pilots

The national move to ADSB will bring an end to our use of the “Compassion” (CMF) call sign for Wings of Mercy flights.

Starting January 1, the aircraft identification emitted by the transponder must match the aircraft identification on the flight plan. Given the new expense of registering a call sign (such as “CMF”) and the fact that some transponders can’t easily change codes, we will discontinue the use of the Compassion call sign on flight plans and in radio transmissions.

Specifically, please do the following when filing a flight plan…

1. In the Aircraft Identification field, please use your normal aircraft registration number when filing Wings of Mercy flight plans.
2. If using the domestic flight planning form, please enter “Compassion flight” in the Remarks field.
3. If using an ICAO flight planning form, please enter “HUM” in the “Other Information” field (item #18). (The “HUM” code indicates that the flight is being performed for humanitarian purposes.)

Finally, please use your normal aircraft registration number when identifying yourself in radio calls.
